Principal's Message

It is hard to believe that we are over halfway through term 3 already.

Thank you to our families who attended our family maths night last week. It was fantastic to see our parents engaging in fun footy maths activities with your children. We hope you learned some new skills and enjoyed your night.

This week we welcome Tayla Marra into our school community. Tayla is a pre-service teacher from Swinburne University. Tayla will be working in FCL for the next 4 weeks. We hope Tayla has a wonderful time working with the students at All Saints.

This week I am fortunate to be travelling to the Australian Catholic Education Conference in Cairns. With the theme 'hope, anchored in faith' the conference will focus on the strategic vision and mission of Catholic education across three key areas – Faith, Excellence and Access. It will feature a broad range of speakers, presentations and workshops focused on Catholic identity, mission and formation; learning and teaching; leadership and governance; parent engagement; parish and community engagement; resourcing and infrastructure; advocacy and marketing; and more.  I hope to have lots of exciting information and initiatives to share when I return. I will be away from Tuesday until Friday. Miss O'Keefe will be Acting Principal for this time.

We would just like to remind families that if your children are unwell please keep them at home. If you require work for your child when they are at home (if they are well enough) please contact your classroom teacher, sometimes though they just need to rest to get well sooner. 

Don't forget our Book Week dress up day is on Friday August 22. Next week our choir and band will be performing in the Music Festival. We wish them all the best.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Arlo Benter in Foundation and his family on the arrival of a new baby brother. Ezekiel was born 01.07.25. Arlo is a very proud big brother.

Book Week 2025

This week is Book Week- August 16-23.

Children will be completing many activities related to the Book Week theme of 'Book an Adventure'. We will have our Book Week dress up day on Friday August 22 at 10:30am in the school hall. Families are invited to come and watch our parade (feel free to dress up too if you want)!

All children who dress up will go into the running to win a prize for their year level. There is also a competition for students to match staff to their adventures that are on the board in the foyer.

Catholic School Culture

Feast of the Assumption of Mary-

Last Friday, August 15, was the feast of the Assumption of Mary. Mary is very important in the Catholic tradition as the mother of Jesus and a symbol of strength, warmth and kindness to us all. It's a day of high importance in the Church, marking Mary's unique role in salvation history and her exemplary faith. 

Sacrament of Confirmation

Our thoughts and prayers are with Rose M, Harriet H, Theo D and Elodie T as they continue their preparations for the Sacrament of Confirmation this weekend.

Over the following weeks these students and their families will participate in mass with members of the parish and work with staff to prepare for the sacrament on August 13.

From the 3/4 classrooms:

3/4 POD celebrations 

Our  SWPBS expectations have been in focus as they learn, work and play . We are respectful, We are Responsible, We are Nurturing and We are Safe. Lately we have been celebrating that the 3/4 students have collectively been awarded 25 tokens for being responsible. The POD was rewarded with a casual clothes day two weeks ago.  More recently, last Wednesday we celebrated an afternoon with a whole POD game (Kennels) within our POD as a reward towards ‘We are safe’.

Below are some of the students that have been recognised as fulfilling the expectation of “being responsible” and have contributed to our token jar for the following expectations:. 

• Robby: for holding the door open for everyone when coming into the POD
• Judd L, Ruby, Charlie: listening very carefully and looking at the speaker during meeting
• Sienna B: being helpful to the teacher
• Skye: for collecting rubbish from the courtyard and keeping our school tidy
• Lance: effective listening to the teacher during POD meeting
• Hunter: for picking up rubbish in our 3/4 eating area
• Nash N: picking up rubbish in the undercover area
• Nestor: picking up rubbish in the undercover area
• Noah B: being organised
• Ruby: excellent listening
• Jensen: for being an organised learner
• Bentley: monitoring the lunch container

SWPBS- School Wide Positive Behaviour Supports

School Wide Expectations

School Wide Positive Behaviour Support is: A multi-tiered framework for establishing the social culture and behaviour supports needed for a school to achieve behavioural and academic outcomes for all students.

Each  newsletter we will share one aspect for each of our school wide expectations. We will focus on these at school and they may present an opportunity for some discussion with your children at home. You may ask them when they demonstrated one of the expectations or a time when someone displayed the expectation towards them.

2025 School Concert: All Saints Colour Fest

The countdown is on and preparations have begun! Put the date in your diary!

Thursday September 11 is our school concert at the Civic Hall. The 'All Saints Colour Fest' matinee will be at 12:00pm and the evening show will begin at 6:00pm.  Tickets at door.

More information will be shared closer to the date.

Behaviour Management- 'Snitching versus Reporting'

As part of our behaviour management we encourage children to 'tell' an adult if they need assistance with something in the yard or in the classroom. A common theme we come across when dealing with issues is that children didn't want to saying anything to a teacher and then get called a 'snitch'. This often cause issues to escalate because without some form of intervention the behaviour continues and in some cases gets worse. When we are dealing with issues at school many of them could have been solved much sooner if teachers were aware that there was something happening in the build up.

We are encouraging students to report unsafe behaviours as a part of our SWPBS matrix at school.

We will be having some discussions in classrooms about the difference between reporting and snitching. The below image gives an idea of some of the points that will be mentioned. This may be a worthwhile discussion for you to have at home with your child.

In today’s world, life presents many challenges, and being a parent or carer is certainly among them.

If you are finding any aspect of parenting or caring particularly challenging right now, or if you would simply like some advice, please refer to the attached flyer for available support. You are also very welcome to reach out to us at school for a conversation—we’re here to listen and explore ways we might be able to assist. If you have a specific need or concern, please let us know, and we may be able to arrange sessions that could also benefit other members of our school community.

In this edition of SchoolTV - Friendship & Belonging

Learning how to make new friends and keep them involves a number of skills every young person needs to understand and develop. For some these skills will come very naturally, allowing them to easily move between different friendship groups, sharing their experiences and opening up to new people. For others, this can be much harder to navigate. Belonging to a group that is like-minded with similar interests is highly beneficial to a young person’s wellbeing. It gives them a sense of security helping them feel valued which in turn builds their confidence.

Positive friendships are an important part of the journey to adulthood. Adult carers can support their child or teenager by providing guidance in the many social and emotional skills required for a healthy relationship. This will help them to obtain, retain and maintain friendships. However, not all friendship are regarded as positive. Sometimes young people develop negative or toxic friendships. Therefore it is also important for them to learn how to identify, avoid or deal with such a friendship.

In this edition of SchoolTV, adult carers can learn how to support their young person’s friendship so that they experience a sense of belonging.
