    Acknowledgement of Country

We acknowledge the traditional owners, the Gunditjmara people, on whose land we learn, work and play. We recognise their continuing connection to land, waters and culture. We pay our respects to their elders- past, present and emerging believing that we can walk together for a better future.

    All Saints Parish School Vision

All Saints Parish School Community is centered in Christ and as partners in Catholic education; we pursue fullness of life for all.

    Principal's Message

Welcome to week 7. It is hard to believe that we are nearly half way through the school year already.

We had a wonderful celebration of Catholic Education Week last week and would like to thank all families who came to our open morning  on Monday to see our school in action. We finished the week with our House Groups Activities Day where children participated a variety of art, sport, games and Reconciliation Week activities. We then lined up our donated tins of food. Thanks to the generosity of our families  we collected over 500 tins of food to donate to United Way Glenelg.

Our school leaders also participated in the Glenelg Shire Community Reconciliation Week event on Wednesday. Ilaria and Althea presented their thoughts based on the theme 'Bridging Now to Next'. We are privileged to be invited to participate in these community celebrations.

This week we welcome Footsteps Dance Company into our school. Footsteps programs develop students’ social skills, confidence, fitness levels, creativity, expressive skills and coordination, ensuring we provide a safe, positive and stimulating environment for all students. We will conclude our Footsteps sessions with a performance of our dances for parents and carers on Thursday at 2:00pm in the school hall.

I hope all families enjoy the extra day off next weekend.

We are Respectful! We are Responsible! We are Safe! We are Nurturing!

    Regards

    Jamie

    School Reports

We would like to inform families that from this year our school reports will not be printed and sent out to families.

Reports will be available for all families via PAM. We will inform families as soon as reports are released. Then you will need to log into your PAM account and select 'assessment reports' from the drop down menu and download your child's report to read. All previous reports are also accessible through PAM.

If anyone has any questions regarding this please contact the office.

    Students with Illness

At the moment there seems to be lots of illness in the wider Portland community. As a result of this we are seeing more illness at school as well. We have been sending quite a few students home each day who are presenting to the sick bay with a variety of symptoms such as headaches, sore stomachs, nausea, cold and flu symptoms, sore throats and coughs.

As much as we love having children at school and we always stress how important it is that your children are at school, if they are unwell please keep them at home until they are feeling better.  Some classes seem to be hit harder because children are coming to school unwell and sharing their germs.

If you are worried about your child missing too much school please contact your classroom teacher and they can organise some work if they are well enough to do it at home but still have symptoms and are not quite well enough to be at school.

Thank you to the families who have been keeping your children at home if they are unwell. Don't forget to let us know through PAM or contacting us at school to let us know if your child is away.

    Learning & Teaching

    From the Art Room

Students have been working carefully in Art to produce some beautiful pieces which reflect this years’ theme - ‘Botanicals’.

So far this term Foundation students have been cutting, pasting, sticking, and painting to create vases of flowers as well a large-scale leaf with a friendly bug.

Grade 1/2 students have created a cactus silhouette on a bright background. Through paint mixing they have also explored primary and secondary colours as well as tints and shades, and have started a painting inspired by famous artist Wassily Kandinsky.

Grade 3/4 students have painted bright, abstract trees and have begun some dotty pumpkin art inspired by Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama.

Grade 5/6 students have used their knowledge of complementary colours to paint a simple landscape and have enhanced it with patterned linework.

All this fantastic artwork and more will be on display during All Saints’ Art Show, scheduled for early Term 4.

Maths Games Day at Heywood and District Secondary College

Last Friday 4 of our Year 6 students participated in the Maths Games day at HDSC. During the day students had to complete activities including games and puzzles and score points for these.

Our team had a very successful and enjoyable day. Thanks Shaz for supervising and encouraging our team on the day.

SWPBS- School Wide Positive Behaviour Supports

    School Wide Expectations

School Wide Positive Behaviour Support is: A multi-tiered framework for establishing the social culture and behaviour supports needed for a school to achieve behavioural and academic outcomes for all students.

Each  newsletter we will share one aspect for each of our school wide expectations. We will focus on these at school and they may present an opportunity for some discussion with your children at home. You may ask them when they demonstrated one of the expectations or a time when someone displayed the expectation towards them.

We are RESPECTFUL! - Use school appropriate language, tone and volume.

We are RESPONSIBLE! - Be accountable, honest and helpful.

We are SAFE! - Report unsafe behaviour to an adult.

We are NURTURING! - Speak positively to others and use kind words.

    Community Engagement

United Way Glenelg Winter Mega Tin Food Raiser

A massive thank you to our school families who donated tins of food to support United Way Glenelg. Your generosity was amazing and we collected over 500 tins which will be used to fill the Little Free Pantries around town. These are a great initiative to support families in need, especially as we move into colder weather.

Congratulations to Otway who created the longest line with their tins. They will receive their prize in the near future.

    SchoolTV - Wellbeing Platform

Because parenting doesn’t come with a set of instructions, SchoolTV is a wellbeing resource that can support you in the challenges relating to modern-day parenting.

This award-winning resource helps build relationships, foster connections, enable understanding and break down barriers to navigate a pathway towards better mental health and wellbeing for young people. It can assist in starting conversations on topics that are sometimes awkward or difficult to tackle.

Below is a URL link to the All Saints SchoolTV platform.

In this edition of SchoolTV - Bullying

Bullying is an ongoing or repeated misuse of power in relationships, with the intention to cause deliberate psychological harm. Bullying behaviours can be verbal, physical or social. It can happen in person or online, via various digital platforms and devices and it can be obvious or hidden. Bullying in any form or for any reason can have immediate, medium and long-term effects on those involved, including bystanders.

Despite the efforts made to reduce bullying behaviours, the research tells us that one in four students still report being bullied every few weeks. However, not all negative behaviour should be considered bullying. The key difference is that bullying does not stop on its own. It’s important young people learn how to identify behaviours that are rude, behaviours that are mean, and behaviours that are related to bullying.

Often the reasons for bullying can be complex. Some young people do it to get approval from others, some do it to regain control, whilst others may do it because it makes them feel safe. Supporting young people as they work through their emotions will help them unpack the motivation and reason behind the behaviour.

In this edition of SchoolTV, caregivers can better understand why some young people engage in bullying behaviours and what to do to support a child experiencing it.

We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this edition of SchoolTV and we always welcome your feedback. If you have any concerns about your child, please contact the school counsellor for further information or seek medical or professional help.
